Significant Milestone – Point Erin

Significant Milestone – Point Erin

Last week we celebrated a significant milestone at RPC with the final two (section 1 and 4) segments of the Point Erin 3.2 diameter shaft departing from our manufacturing facility in Batam, Indonesia. This was preceded by the final two segments (sections 2 and 3) leaving from our Corio plant in Victoria for the Point Erin shaft. All four segments are expected to reach Auckland port this week.

The Point Erin Cascade shaft is the final shaft engineered and manufactured by RPC for @Watercare’s Central Interceptor project, the largest wastewater infrastructure project in New Zealand’s history. In total RPC has delivered and installed nine shafts from 3m in diameter to 7.5m diameter to be joined to the 16.2 km long wastewater tunnel.

With manufacturing beginning in November 2020 this project has experienced many challenges, including navigating the significant disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Central Interceptor project has been a living example of our commitment and strategy as a company – OneRPC. By consolidating our expertise, technologies and capabilities into a single cohesive framework we provide – more efficient, consistent, and innovative solutions to meet the evolving needs of our customers.

This milestone not only highlights the dedication of the RPC team but also the importance of strong, respectful partnerships.

Francesco Saibene (GA-JV Project Director) said to Tony Caristo in an email recently, “We truly appreciate all the effort and commitment your team has put in to get us to this point. It’s been a remarkable collaboration, where our relationship has grown stronger and stronger and I am sure there is much more to come.”

A huge congratulations is extended to all those involved at RPC across Batam, Australia, and New Zealand for their contribution and commitment to this extraordinary and complex project.

RPC also congratulates Watercare Services Limited and Ghella Abergeldie Joint Venture (GAJV) on their foresight in the facilitation of endorsing the use of the engineered GRP solution for the cascade shafts.
