Belmont GRP Covers

Belmont GRP Covers

RPC recently completed the manufacture and delivery of GRP Cover for the marine Intake structure for the new Belmont Desalination Plant in NSW.

The $530 million project currently under construction by John Holland under an alliance with Hunter Water, will be a permanent facility designed to secure the region’s water supply with up to 30 million litres per day of rainfall-independent capacity. Scheduled for operation by 2028, the project includes marine works for a direct ocean intake.

The customer, John Holland required a bespoke solution for this complex intake structure which needed a large diameter cover for the top of the Intake structure. RPC scoped, designed, engineered, manufactured, delivered and assembled the 15m diameter cover that will operate 20 meters below sea level. GRP was selected as the material of choice for its unparalleled high-corrosion resistance, low-maintenance and ability to deliver and an asset life of 50-years plus.

Showcasing OneRPC, the scoping, design and engineering were managed by RPC in Australia, while the manufacturing was executed by our Batam, Indonesia team. The preassembly of the covers prior to the installation is about to commence and will be performed by the RPC team.
