Ship Hull Scale Tank Test Models

Ship Hull Scale Tank Test Models

Demonstrating RPC’s agility in responding to unusual GRP engineering challenges, recently, PT RPC Indonesia was contracted by Solution Engineering, Malaysia, a technology and research company, to supply scale models for one Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC2) – scale 1:100, and one Floating Production, Storage & Offloading Vessel (FPSO) ship hull scale model -1:70, for tank testing.

With full GRP construction, each hull model included mooring line eye bolts, internal bulkheads to stiffen the hull, and plates for mounting tank test instrumentation at the bow and centre of the hull.

Single use moulds were CNC machined, coated, and polished ready to create the models. The hull models were constructed using Hand Lay Up within these moulds with hulls 8mm thick. The hulls were gelcoat finished yellow to provide visibility in the tank testing.

This was such an interesting project for the Batam team and we were very pleased with the end results.
