The project
RPC is leading the way in the design and manufacture of full-sized Hi-fi and Lo-fi mock-ups of the saloon and cab modules, which have been used with great success as part of design validation and the stakeholder assessment process of major rail programmes, including recent examples for Sydney Metro, Perth Metronet, X’Trapolis 2.0 and NGT Melbourne trams.
X’Trapolis 2.0
The X’Trapolis 2.0 mock-up was produced under an Alliance agreement with Alstom for the Victorian Department of Transport and Planning. The mock-up consists of a Motor Car and Trailer Car totalling 40m long and weighing around 35,000kg. The Motor Car is 25m long and 21,000kg and was joined with the Trailer Car delivered in 2022. The mock-up was inspected and evaluated by over 60 stakeholder user groups; adjustments to the design of the real train may be incorporated based on their feedback.
G Class tram
For our customer Alstom, the Broadmeadow team built the new, more accessible G Class tram as a fully-operable mock-up, used for critical stakeholder feedback.
What RPC did
Working closely with the client to understand the requirements of the mock-up, RPC can design, manufacture and deliver the exact solution required by the customer.
